For the past year I have been undertaking guitar lessons with John Freiberg as part of the High Performance Guitar Training Programme. Differing from standard guitar lessons, John’s approach to teaching the instrument has from the start been well planned, passionate, and without fail relevant to the styles I’m interested in personally, which is something I have found to be absent at the majority of other businesses offering guitar tuition.
When I first started my training, John asked me exactly what music I was interested in, which elements I was hoping to develop, what I was wanting to accomplish musically and as a working student with only a small amount of free time, John created a personalised, daily training plan of material, exercises and development goals all focused around my preferred musical genre – Jazz.
At the beginning of my lessons, besides knowing a few Django Reinhardt tunes, my jazz knowledge was close to none, but after recently gaining entrance into the Jazz Music Institute’s Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance I can honestly say that my time spent working with John has absolutely been the most productive and thoroughly enjoyable of my musical career.
